- 尾道は日本の伝統を残している町です。お寺の町として日本でも有名です。尾道駅の周辺には２５ものお寺があります。
- １９５３年に小津 安二郎監督は”東京物語”で尾道を撮影しました。その後、尾道を舞台にした映画はアニメを含め43作品以上も出来ました。
- 尾道はラーメンも有名で美味しいと評判のお店では100人以上の行列で賑わっています。醤油ベースのスープに豚の背脂のこくとニンニクのパンチでくせになリます。
- 尾道から四国まではおよそ70キロ、しまなみ海道を渡ります。その間7つもの島を通過しますが、途中でそれぞれの島に渡ることが出来ます。サイクリングの為に広めの歩道もありますので冒険好きの方には自転車もお勧めです。
- 松尾芭蕉や林芙美子などの日本を代表する有名な作家も尾道で筆をはしらせています。
- 11月には”ベッチャー祭り”という毎年恒例のお祭りで町が賑わいます。伝統的なお面を被った3人が神社から町へとやってきて、竹槍で人々を突きながら走り回ります。これには病気や怪我などを払うという願いが込められています。

- It is one of the most traditional and beautiful "temple towns" in Japan, with around 25 temples located within 20 minutes walk of the railway station.
- The city is probably best known as the location for the classic Japanese film "Tokyo Monogatari" or "Tokyo Story", which was filmed in 1953 by one of Japan's eminent film directors, Yasujiro Ozu. Since then it has been used as a site for over 43 other films, including the Japanese anime "Kamichu!" which faithfully depicts many of the city's features and landmarks.
- Many tourists flock to the city to eat "Onomichi Ramen" noodles. Onomichi ramen-style uses soy sauce as the base for its soup and the most popular shops attracts lines of over 100 people at one time.
- It is linked by a series of seven bridges to the island of Shikoku (Japan's 4th largest island) over a distance of 70 kilometers by seven islands. Many adventurous travelers make the trip either way by bicycle.
- Many famous Japanese writers such as Hayashi Fumiko and Matsuo Bashou to name just two, have written some of their material here.
- Its most famous festival is the Betcha Festival in November in which three demons from the local Ikkyu Shrine roam the streets of Onomichi hitting locals with bamboo sticks to ward off ill omens for the coming year.
