耕三寺 - Kosanji Temple
Kosanji Temple in Setoda, Ikuchijima was founded by Koso Kosanji in 1936, after he entered the priesthood to show his gratitude towards his mother. The grounds cover some 50,000 square meters. It took more than 30 years to construct, with many of the various structures resembling some of Japan's finest architectural monuments. The outer gate of the temple resembles the Shinshinden Gate of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The Chumon Gate is modeled after the Romon Gate of Horyuji Temple in Nara. The Koyo Gate is modeled after the Yomeimon Gate at Nikko Shrine. At the rear of the temple is the amazing "Miraishin no Oka" or the "Hill of Hope", which has was designed and sculptured by an internationally renowned sculpture in the finest Italian white marble and granite.
