Jizu statues are found all over Japan and are based on a Bodhishatva Jizu from Buddhist teachings who has vowed to remain on the lower levels of life (not to attain enlightenment) in order to help those who are suffering. You travel down lots of stairs from a cliff and when you arrive at the shoreline, you walk along the bottom of the cliff to the very end point, wwhich is marked by hundreds of smaller staues and on the very end of the point, you will find this amazing statue.
