平山郁夫 - Ikuo Hirayama (Artist)
Ikuo Hirayama was born in 1930 in Setoda, Ikuchijima Island, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. He is paints in a Japanese style and is famous in Japan for Silk Road paintings of dreamy desert landscapes in Iran, Iraq and China. In 1952, he graduated from the Tokyo School of Art and became a disciple of Maeda Seison. He has a studio in Kamakura, Kanagawa and there is a dedicated museum of his work in Setoda on Ikuchijima Island.
