尾道のビデオ - Onomichi Videos

Below are different videos I have found on the web that will give you more of an idea of what to expect, where to go in Onomichi before you get here. There are lots on there and not many of them are well made so I have tried to choose those that are the best I could find that you might enjoy if you plan on coming here. I will add to these as I find more good quality material.

尾道 (日本テレビから) - Onomichi (on Japanese TV)

This is an introductory video from Japanese TV. It is all in Japanese of course, but you can get a lot from it just from the visuals as it is very well made.

Introduction to Onomchi Video

The following video offers a great introduction to Onomichi and the things you can expect to see while you are here. These include the view from Mount Senkoji, the narrow streets that Onomichi is famous for, Jodoji Temple where Tokyo Monogatari was filmed and the ferry boats that run between the narrow strip of water between Onomichi and Mukaishima Island to name just a few. Onomichi Guide would like to thank Roger March of Sydney, Australia for making this video.

尾道の美景 - Images of Onomichi

The first video is a photo slideshow of various images from Onomichi. It begins with the ferries between Onomichi and Mukaishima and then focuses on a montage of images from in the city. It starts a bit slow, but improves as it goes along and the music is really suitable for the images it presents. The second one is again a variety of images but these are accompanied by the soundtrack of a film made by local film director Obayashi Nobuhiko.

Arriving in Onomichi by Train

I quite like this video although it is very simple. It is the last four minutes of the train ride coming from Fukuyama City by Japan Rail local line train and arriving at JR Onomichi. When you get to Onomichi Bridge (1 minute 20 secs in the video), you can see the small city of Onomichi beginning to appear on the right hand side under the big hill which is called Mount Senkoji. Whenever I arrive in Onomichi by car or train from this direction, I always look forward to this view of Onomichi that greets me. It really is a small city by the sea.

"Welcome to Fukumichi" Short Film

This was a short film made in Onomichi for the Fukuyama Film Festival (the main city next to Onomichi). It didn't win...and I hesitated putting it here as it can be corny at times, but overall, I had a laugh. It was made by some Assistant Language Teachers who were based in Onomichi (all have now left I think), and it is a satire of life in Onomichi seen from the perspective of a foreigner, who has tried to "become one" with the Japanese and their culture. Well, for better or worse, have a look if you think you might like to. You will laugh I think, but quite possibly, you will also cringe at times.
