尾道は海が好きな人にとって本当に素晴らしいところです。尾道から四国ー今治までしまなみ海道を通っておよそ7０㎞、その間６つの島と７本の橋を通ります。元気な方にはレンタサイクルを利用してのサイクリングがおすすめです。車とは違いスムーズで、天気のいい日は風を感じて海だけの景色を楽しみながら自分のペースで走ることができます。サイクリング用の道があるので交通面でも安全です。自転車のレンタル場所は尾道グリーンヒルホテルの裏の市営駐車場ですが、その他にも何カ所かあり、今治までの間にもたくさんあります。大人５００円、小人３００円、いわゆる保険料が１０００円必要です。この１０００円は自転車の返却時に返ってきますが借りたときと同じところに返却する場合に限ります。身分証明書としてパスポートまたは運転免許証が必要です。

Onomichi is a great starting point for those wanting to enjoy ocean views all the way to Shikoku or vice versa, from Shikoku to Onomichi. This route is called the Shimanami Kaidou, and it spans approximately 70km from Onomichi City to Imabari City and you will cross six islands and seven bridges along the way. This is definitely recommended for those who either have a motorbike or are fit and want to travel by bicycle. The Onomichi Shimanami Council has set up a very reasonable bicycle rental service, whereby you can rent or return bicycles at any one of the 'stations' on the islands, in Onomichi or Imabari. It is a quiet stretch of road without too much traffic, and in many places a dedicated bicycle path to make it really safe.

In Onomichi you can rent a cycle at the Municipal Parking Garage behind the Green Hill Hotel in Onomichi, (5mins walk from JR Onomichi Station). Prices: adults: 500 yen per day; children: 300 yen per day; electrically assisted bicycle: 800 yen per day. Each bicycle requires a 1000 yen deposit that will be lost if you return the bicycle at a different station and a passport or drivers licence for ID.

From Onomichi to Mukaishima: Take a 4 minute ferry in front of JR Onomichi Station OR
cross over Onomichi Bridge (cost is 10 yen for bicycles and motorbikes under 125cc)
Mukaishima to Innoshima ( 8.1km) - Cross Innoshima Bridge (50 yen)
Innoshima to Ikuchijima (12.9km) - Cross Ikuchi Bridge (50 yen)
Ikuchijima to Omishima (19.2km) -  Cross Tatara Bridge (100 yen)
Omishima to Hakata ( 9.6km) - Cross Omishima Bridge (50 yen)
Hakata to Oshima (5.9km) - Cross Hakata-Oshima Bridge (50 yen)
Oshima to Imabari IC (11.5km) - Cross Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge (200 yen)
Imabari IC to Imabari City (40km) - Just follow the signs to central Imabari City.

Total to Imabari IC 67.2km and to Imabari City =107.2km

This is an excellent video of the ride from Onomichi to Imabari. This man put a time lapse camera on his bicycle which too photos every few seconds and gives an incredible dense of what it will be like to make this trip. Very recommended and has explanations of different parts of the journey in English as subtitles.
